„Erzählcafes” (Talking Circles) Archive of Germany’s Divided History. „What did the division of Germany mean for their own family history, for the local community, for society as a whole? How did people on both sides of the border live back then - and does this border still exist in people‘s minds today? “ The website functions as an evolving audio archive where visitors can listen to and contribute personal stories about life along the former inner German border. There is a user-friendly audio recording form that allows users to easily submit their recorded memories, which are then stored, categorized, and displayed in an engaging and accessible format.
The core of the site is an interactive audio map developed with D3.js, where recordings are visually connected through a force-directed tree, making the exploration of these stories both intuitive. The project involved not just technical implementation but also thoughtful UX/UI design to ensure that the archive feels alive and engaging, inviting users to connect with history.
